Young Boxers Inducted into the National Honor Society.

Yesterday two students Roderick Wilson & Tomiko Waton, from Horizon Science Academy located on 6000 south marginal rd. in Cleveland, Ohio, and silver Junior Olympic champions were inducted into the National Honor Society. The NHS was founded in 1921, and since then have Honored and recognized outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

These two students not only are smart. But they are both boxers and apart of a local organization called Cleveland Inner City Boxing Club located in the fairfax neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. Under the tutelage of Coach Fred Wilson.

Team 216

Who is the founder of the organization, the boxing coach of Tomiko Waton and, also the father of Roderick Wilson. Finding out Fred Wilson was apart of both these kids lives, it was only right to reach out to him for questions. I reached out to Mr. Wilson Through his Facebook page. Upon contacting him he promptly told me to just call him coach. I asked, "coach tell me a little bit about Cleveland Inner City Boxing?" He replied " Cleveland inner city boxing was founded to give the youth of the city a second chance. An alternative to the quote on quote street life. Our motto is stronger and stronger. You may not be the best right now but everyday your a little but stronger than you were the day before. Do a little better than the day before and you will become a productive citizen."

Can you tell me a about Tomiko and Roderick? What kind of students are they? " Tomiko and Roderick are both highly intelligent students which crosses over to their boxing. Tomiko is not a natural athlete, her boxing talent comes from hard work and dedication in the gym. She realizes the harder she works in the gym the better she performs. As opposed to Roderick who is naturally athletically gifted. He realized by studying video and applying the sweet science of boxing he can add excitement to his style." he wrote.

How do you feel about your son and another of your boxers getting inducted into the national honor society? " I'm very proud and excited to have my son and another of my fighters inducted into the national honor society. Roderick is actually following the footsteps of his older brother who was also inducted. Being in this society is a big achievement because it the top students nationwide that are inducted and that is awesome!"

Here at the Magazine we love to throw curve ball questions so we asked the coach for his curveball question. " Who is really for Cleveland, and the Cavs, Lebron or Kyrie?" I believe both Kyrie and Lebron are really for Cleveland. But i do think Lebron is a lil more vested. Being from the greater Cleveland area. Leaving Cleveland and going to Miami, then returning shows he wants to bring the ring home. To Cleveland, the 216."

Talking to " the coach" he seems very dedicated to giving back to his community and to the youth of Cleveland. I know here at the magazine, we feel the same way. We love to see kids doing great and productive things in life and around the community. They are our future. Without them we are doomed. Nowadays intelligence is shunned, looked down on. It shouldn't be, it should be praised, and applauded. We want to give a big congratulations to these two teens who are not only outstanding students, but outstanding boxers as well. From all of us over at the Magazine we thank you.
