Fourth body found inside Cleveland home after fire, officials say


CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Firefighters Tuesday evening pulled a fourth body from a home destroyed by an early morning fire, officials said.

The fire broke out about 1 a.m. Tuesday and firefighters quelled the blaze in about 90 minutes, Norman saidThe fire is believed to be one of the deadliest in the city since four people died in a fire in November 2009.

Family members identified three victims as: Alfonso Lathan Jr., 46, his son, Alfonso Lathan III, 3, his granddaughter, Nyiah Lathan, 8. Alfonso Lathan's 44-year-old nephew also died in the fire. His identity, however, was unable to be immediately independently verified.

Alfonso Lathan's sister, Sharon Kemp, and her daughter Shalean Kemp identified the victims.

Alfonso Lathan's wife, Gianna Lathan, 46, jumped out of a second-story window as the blaze raged. She is intubated but stable at MetroHealth, Cleveland Fire Department spokesman Mike Norman said. Investigators with the Cleveland fire department and the Ohio Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
